Our Story.
Matter was founded in 2018 to help councils deal with public waste and stormwater management. These are particularly hostile environments for IoT for which scalable solutions did not exist.
To meet this challenge we set about employing the best hardware, software, firmware, networking & field engineers from around the world (7 nationalities presently).
Together we have created, I believe, the world's most intuitive, comprehensive and helpful platform for everyday practitioners.
My role was to bring these clever people together - in a not-so hostile environment.

Stormwater Issues.
Climate Change
Australia is experiencing changes in climate patterns, leading to more intense and unpredictable rainfall events. This can exacerbate existing stormwater issues, leading to increased flooding and erosion.
Urbanisation and Infrastructure Design
The expansion of urban areas leads to increased impervious surfaces such as roads, parking lots, and buildings. This can result in higher volumes of stormwater runoff, leading to flooding and erosion.
Aging stormwater infrastructure in some areas may not be equipped to handle increased urbanisation and extreme weather events. Inadequate design and maintenance of stormwater systems can contribute to flooding and water quality issues.
Waste Issues.
Landfill Overload
Landfills are a common method of waste disposal in Australia. However, many landfills are reaching their capacity, leading to concerns about where to dispose of increasing amounts of waste.
Circular Economy Implementation
While there is growing awareness of the concept of a circular economy, where resources are reused and recycled, the full implementation of circular economy principles in waste management is still a work in progress.
