CarbonFX is a smart data business. We use mathematics and blockchain to model the movement of carbon.
Our core product - the CarbonFX system
- is a greenhouse gas inventory in the blockchain. If you're not from the carbon space, you might not know what an inventory is. A greenhouse gas inventory is like a carbon footprint, but better. It records the emissions and removals of greenhouse gases to and from the atmosphere, in meticulous detail.
Like our partner business Matter says, you can't manage what you don't measure.
CarbonFX is a new way to measure carbon.
The Waste Chain.
In a perfect world, waste would be a circular economy, where value flows back as incentives for producers to reduce their pollution.
CarbonFX with Matter is a decisive step in that direction, focusing on [without being limited to] carbon pollution.
We call this the waste chain, and it has important features in common with supply chains.
By treating waste as a supply chain, CarbonFX helps create the conditions for a circular economy around waste to exist.
Why CarbonFX.
There's No Planet B
Climate change is the greatest challenge our civilization faces. We must reduce our emissions or die trying.
That implies an industrial effort on the scale of world wars. Every country must mobilize. Data's the catalyst that allows that to happen. Without data, nothing will happen.
It's Blockchain?
People think that blockchains are about Bitcoins, but they're more important than that. In industry, blockchains are about compliance.
Blockchains provide an immutable ledger. They're the gold standard in computer science for proving the integrity of data. What that means in practise is that bad actors can't game the system.
We are Green
CarbonFX is a clean data business. Blockchains have a bad reputation for using vast amounts of electricity.
Our blockchain is green. Hōshō is the in-house blockchain at the Blockchain Research and Development Lab at Curtin University. Hōshō has no expensive proof-of-work algorithm, or inbuilt cryptocurrency.
That means the carbon cost of transactions can be measured in minute fractions of grams.
Patents.
Research and development of our sensor technology dates back to 2007.
Since this time, a family of waste-sensing patents have been accumulated, affording Matter the most robustly protected IP in the industry.
Matter acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to elders both past and present.
